Al Compas Del Querer - Flamenco

Daniel Martinez Flamenco Company brings Al Compas del Querer to Central Hall on Saturday 20 February 2027, the UK premiere of the production. It's a new show built around a new album, and it's the first time this particular piece has been staged on this side of the Channel. The evening is led by flamenco guitarist Daniel Martinez, who heads up an ensemble of six artists.

Martinez has been playing flamenco guitar for over twenty years, starting at the age of seven at the Royal Conservatoire of Cordoba. He graduated as a fully licensed flamenco musician in 2015, having studied under some of Spain's best teachers. Since 2023, his company has put on three acclaimed productions: the debut album Art of Believing, which won the Herald Angel Award at the Edinburgh International Festival; Andalucia, which picked up five-star reviews; and Art of Andalucia, which toured throughout 2025. Between them, they've played to over 120,000 people across Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland and beyond.

Al Compas del Querer is a different sort of project from those. It's a deeply personal and emotionally charged journey through the life of one of flamenco's most celebrated touring artists, and Martinez describes it as his most intimate production to date — a raw, honest and visually stunning evening driven by the rhythm of life itself.

The show runs from 7:30pm to 9:15pm at Central Hall on the University of York campus, University Rd, Heslington, York YO10 5DD. Tickets are £28.00.
