Comedian Adam Kay brings his 10th anniversary tour of his diary-based comedy to the stage, pairing all-time favourites with never-before-told stories.
Adam Kay is coming to York Barbican on Thursday 3 June 2027, with his This Is Going To Hurt 10th Anniversary Tour. It's a show marking a decade since his diaries as a junior doctor became a global smash, and it's built around the same material that made him a household name.
If you've read the book or seen the series, you'll recognise the territory. The set pairs his all-time favourites with stories he's never told before, so it's not just a repeat of the old stuff. He mixes frontline NHS horror stories with silly songs and wordplay, and the whole thing is followed by a Q&A where he reflects on how the NHS has changed in the ten years since he first stuck an index finger inside it. The Mail on Sunday called it 'hilarious and heartbreaking' and Charlie Brooker described it as 'electrifying'.
Kay himself is a British comedian, writer and former doctor, and before the diaries he fronted the musical comedy duo Amateur Transplants. He wrote This Is Going to Hurt in 2017, and the show has since been watched live by 350,000 people worldwide. He's a BAFTA winner, and this tour is his way of looking back at the decade that followed.
