A community day of food and festivities at the Chocolate Works care home, celebrating favourite recipes, seasonal dishes and shared memories with homemade treats and locally sourced produce.
Chocolate Works is opening its doors for A Taste of Home on Thursday 6 August, from 10am to 2pm. It's a day of food and festivities that the home is inviting families to join in on, and it sits as part of their wider programme of free community events. If you're not familiar with the place, Chocolate Works is a Care UK home set inside the restored former Terry's Chocolate Factory on Bishopthorpe Road, YO23 1DE. It opened in 2017 as a residential, dementia, nursing and end-of-life care home, and it's a proper community hub as much as a place to live.
The day is built around favourite recipes, seasonal dishes and shared memories, with homemade treats and locally sourced produce on the table. There's a clear thread of sustainability running through it, too: inclusive dining and a commitment to reducing food waste are part of the day. It's the kind of thing that works best when you bring your own stories to the table, and the whole thing is free to attend.
Chocolate Works has a fair bit going on inside. It's got couple's suites, a bright atrium, a residents' bistro, a hair and beauty salon, The Duke of York pub and a cinema, and it runs a day club. The home has picked up a string of awards over the last few years, including the Lottie Awards 2025, the Care Home Awards 2026 and the Caring UK Awards 2025, and Care UK describes itself as the most awarded care home provider for the last five years.
