A fundraising concert with Don Pears and the Singphonia choir celebrating Christmas classics.
Don Pears and the Singphonia choir are taking over the Joseph Rowntree Theatre on Sunday 20 December for A Feast of Festive Favourites, a fundraising concert that does exactly what the title says. It's a Christmas evening built around the songs we all know, the ones that usually come out of the cupboards around this time of year.
The billing is straightforward: timeless Christmas classics and uplifting festive favourites. It's a night for the songs that don't need introducing, the ones that have a way of working even if you're not usually one for the holiday season. With a choir behind him, Pears will be leaning into the bigger, choral side of the Christmas songbook rather than keeping it to a small ensemble, so it's the sort of thing that works well in a room like the Rowntree.
There's a bit more to it than just the music, though. The concert is a fundraiser, and the proceeds go back to the Joseph Rowntree Theatre itself, so it's a night that supports the venue as much as it fills it. It's also listed as part of the theatre's 17-25 season, which is the programme they put together for younger audiences, though the music is the kind of thing that doesn't really stop at a certain age.

It's on Sunday 20 December, starting at 7pm, so it's one of those late-December dates that sits just before the Christmas break. Tickets are between £12 and £15, and since it's a fundraiser, your seat helps keep the theatre going.
