A traditional Japanese taiko drumming performance presented as part of the New Tampa Performing Arts Center's Theatre for Young Audiences programme.
The Tampa Taiko Japanese Drumming Ensemble is playing at the New Tampa Performing Arts Center on Thursday, February 4, 2027. They're bringing an ancient Japanese art form to the stage with a collection of traditional taiko drums, and they've described the performance as a heart-racing presentation meant to both entertain and educate young audiences. The show is part of the center's Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) program, so it's built with kids and families in mind.
Beyond the drumming, the group celebrates popular Asian festivals and holidays, from Lunar New Year and Chinese New Year to Matsuri festivals. They also pull in traditional music and dancing styles, including the Chinese Lion Danceβa 3,000-year-old tradition that symbolizes prosperity, luck, and happiness. Between the taiko drums and the dance, it's a broad look at East Asian traditions rather than just one instrument.
