Tampa City Ballet presents its beloved holiday tradition, The Nutcracker, a cherished annual event featuring immersive multimedia sets and Tchaikovsky's unforgettable score.
Tampa City Ballet brings The Nutcracker back to the New Tampa Performing Arts Center on Friday, December 11, as part of a run that stretches from December 11 to 13 and December 17 to 19. It's the company's holiday tradition, the kind of annual event that brings together different generations across the Tampa Bay Area for a family celebration.
On stage, the lead roles of the Prince, Nutcracker, Snow King, and Cavalier are handled by professionals from the company, while many of the younger dancers are scholarship recipients from the Tampa City Ballet Dance School. The production is built around immersive multimedia sets, cinematic storytelling, and Tchaikovsky's score, following Clara's journey through a world of toy soldiers, mischievous mice, and the Sugar Plum Fairy.
This is just one part of the company's winter schedule. The Nutcracker opens at the University of South Florida on December 5 and 6, followed by outreach performances on December 8 and 9, before moving to the New Tampa Performing Arts Center for the December 11–13 and 17–19 dates. Beyond the holiday season, the company also puts on Dance Now, a free outdoor dance festival in some of Tampa's parks, and ERA, a creative laboratory of world-premiere contemporary works commissioned from internationally recognized choreographers.
