Free salsa workshop for all levels, led by Maribel, a domestic violence survivor who found healing through dance, during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Rhythm and Resilience - Let's Salsa! comes to The Kathy Castor Centre for Counseling and Wellness on Thursday, October 22, from 6 PM to 7 PM. It's a free workshop run by The Centre for Women, and it's open to everyone—no dance experience required.
The session is led by Maribel, a domestic violence survivor who now teaches salsa. The workshop falls during Domestic Violence Awareness Month and draws on her own journey: she found healing and ongoing wellness through physical activity, and salsa dancing became a part of that. She'll share how movement helped her build confidence, reduce stress, reconnect with herself, and cultivate joy.
As for what actually happens during the hour, you get a free salsa lesson and a chance to dance. Since no experience is necessary, it's as much about getting on your feet as it is about the steps. The connection between physical activity and mental wellness is the through-line here, and Maribel's story puts a face on that.
