World Ballet Company presents its new production of The Sleeping Beauty, with Tchaikovsky's score played by a live orchestra.
World Ballet Company brings The Sleeping Beauty to the Stifel Theatre on Thursday, April 8, 2027. It's a new production of the Tchaikovsky classic, and the score is performed by a live orchestra rather than a recording, which changes the whole feel of the evening.
The staging is a big one: around forty professional dancers, more than 150 costumes, hand-crafted sets, and multimedia effects. The story follows Princess Aurora from her christening through the wicked fairy Carabosse's curse, the kingdom's hundred-year sleep, and the magical kiss that awakens her. It's the version of the story most of us know, but seeing it with a live orchestra makes the music a part of the performance rather than just a backdrop.
World Ballet Company is based in Los Angeles and led by Sasha Gorskaya and Gulya Hartwick. They work from the belief that ballet is for everyone, and they lean on international artists to build their casts. They tour more than 300 cities and have reached over 600,000 fans, so this is one stop in a much larger run.
