Concert by Kurt Vile and The Violators, with support from Twisted Teens, at The Sovereign.
Kurt Vile and The Violators play The Sovereign on Saturday, November 7, their only St. Louis date this fall. Vile is the front and center of the bill, and he's bringing his full band, The Violators, with him. Opening the night is Twisted Teens, so you'll get two acts on the bill.
If you're not familiar with the name, Kurt Vile is a Philadelphia songwriter who's spent the last decade and a half carving out a very specific lane in indie rock. He's known for long, sprawling guitar lines and a laid-back, almost conversational way of singing that lets the songs breathe. The Violators are his touring band, the group that fills out those arrangements on stage and turns his studio work into a live show. Between the two, the night is built around his guitar playing.
Twisted Teens take the stage first, so the music starts well before Vile comes on. By the time the headliner takes over, the room should be warm. It's a straightforward lineup: one opener and one main act, with Vile and his band taking the bulk of the evening. If you've seen him before, you know the set usually leans into those extended jams he's known for, and The Violators are the ones who hold them together.
