Jazz, rhythm and blues, funk and gospel holiday music from brothers Dwayne and Dwight Bosman, The Bosman Twins.
The Bosman Twins bring their holiday set to Blue Strawberry on Friday, December 4 and Saturday, December 5, with both nights running from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM. It's a two-night run, so you've got a couple of chances to catch them if one date doesn't work. They're playing holiday music they've arranged in a mix of jazz, rhythm and blues, funk and gospel, so the set pulls from a few different traditions at once.
Dwayne and Dwight Bosman are jazz musicians, composers, arrangers and educators, as well as Florida A&M University music scholars. They were born here in St. Louis and grew up on Earl 'Fatha' Hines, Count Basie and Duke Ellington, and on their father, Lloyd Smith, a businessman and sideman in the Basie and Ellington orchestras. Their mother, Paula V. Smith, was the first African-American Administrator in the Wage and Hour Division of the U.S. Department of Labor under the Reagan Administration and an avid jazz lover herself. Following in the footsteps of Louis Armstrong, John Coltrane and Charlie Parker, the brothers were performing professionally as The Bosman Twins by age 14.

Since then they've shared the stage with Freddie Cole, Branford Marsalis, Fontella Bass, Roy Ayers, David Peaston and the late trumpeter Lester Bowie. They're playing at Blue Strawberry, an all-ages new music showroom and lounge in the Central West End that books local and national acts at least three nights a week. Tickets are $35.
