Southern rapper Rittz plays Red Flag in St. Louis on his Before The Drop Tour.
Rittz brings his Before The Drop Tour to Red Flag on Tuesday, October 20, with doors opening at 6:30 PM and the show starting at 7:30 PM. It's a single-bill night, so he's the only name on the poster.
If you're not familiar with him, Rittz is a Southern rapper from Gwinnett County, just outside Atlanta. He grew up in a musical family with parents who played rock and roll, and by junior high he'd fallen into the city's bass and rap scene. He started rapping at 12, emulating early Rap-A-Lot artists like Willie D and the Geto Boys before finding his own voice through Outkast and Goodie Mob. From 1995 to 2003 he fronted Ralo and Rittz, a group he called "the white Outkast," and ran a basement studio in Gwinnett. After a slump around 2003, he was rediscovered in 2009 when Yelawolf featured him on "Box Chevy" from Trunk Muzik, and he later put out the mixtape Rittz White Jesus.
He's known for a lightning-speed delivery and a confrontational style that comes through on tracks like "Switch Lanes," "White Rapper," and "Bloody Murdah," as well as his 2023 album MellowLOvation Music. That's the kind of set you can expect here: fast-talking Southern rap with a bit of a chip on its shoulder.
