Free public symposium with a keynote by Isaac Galatzer-Levy from Google DeepMind and panels on AI in healthcare and health policy.
Power, Promise and Public Good is coming to the Clark-Fox Forum on Thursday, October 29, from 9 AM to 12:30 PM. It's a symposium hosted by the WashU Bursky School of Public Health and the AI for Health Institute at the McKelvey School of Engineering, and it's open to the public. The whole day is built around how artificial intelligence is changing healthcare and health policy, with a focus on the opportunities and the challenges that come with it.
The morning kicks off with a keynote from Isaac Galatzer-Levy, a senior staff research scientist at Google DeepMind. His talk, AI in Mental Health from Characterization to Assessment to Action, draws on his work in mental health technology—he's published more than 150 peer-reviewed papers and holds several patents in the field. After that, the session splits into two panels. AI & Healthcare: Hype and Promise is moderated by Thomas M. Maddox, MD, SM, and Can AI Help Health Policy? is moderated by Yulin Hswen, ScD, MPH. The panels bring together a wide range of voices: Nathan Jacobs, Joy Jiang, Thomas Kannampallil, Xuhai 'Orson' Xu, Patricia Cavozos-Rehg, Jin Huang, Timothy McBride, and Montrece Ransom. Among them are a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in substance use disorder treatments, a chief data scientist at WashU Medicine, and a cardiologist who sits on the FDA Digital Health Advisory Committee.
The AI for Health Institute brings together AI researchers and health investigators to find new ways of solving health problems with advanced AI, and this symposium gathers leaders from academia, industry, medicine, public health, and policy to weigh in on where it's all heading. There's also a call for posters open, so if you're working on something in this space, you might be able to show it off.
