Free public lecture on the influence of weaving on modern art, with Kay Wells and Elissa Auther at the Pulitzer Arts Foundation.
Kay Wells is coming to the Pulitzer Arts Foundation on Saturday, November 7, for a lecture titled Weaving and Modernism. It's a conversation about the work of Amaral and the influence weaving has had on modern art, and Wells won't be doing it alone. She'll be joined by Elissa Auther, the chief curator at the Museum of Arts and Design, with Stephanie Weissberg, the Pulitzer's senior curator, leading the discussion.
Wells is an associate professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Auther brings the perspective of a major museum curator. Together they'll be talking through Amaral's work and how weaving fits into the broader story of modern artβthe kind of conversation that works best when you have people from different sides of the field, academia and curating, in the same room. If you've spent any time around the Pulitzer's programming, you know this is exactly the kind of thing they do: bringing in outside voices to talk through a specific artist or a particular thread of art history.

The lecture is free and open to the public, and the Pulitzer provides American Sign Language interpretation upon request, free of charge, as long as you give them advance notice. The foundation is at 3716 Washington Boulevard in St. Louis.
