Digital program bringing live opera to classrooms with an abridged production of Mozart's 'The Magic Flute', plus interactive workshops and a study guide.
Opera Theatre Saint Louis is bringing Mozart's The Magic Flute into classrooms with Opera on the Go!, a digital program that runs from January 19 through June 30, 2027. It's not a full-length production—it's a 30-minute abridged version of the opera, designed to fit into a school day rather than take up an entire afternoon. The story follows a quest filled with fantastical characters, memorable melodies, and themes of courage, friendship, and discovery.
It's built for accessibility, which is where the "on the go" part comes in. The production is available on demand, so teachers can play it whenever it fits their schedule rather than working around a set performance time. It doesn't stand alone, either: the abridged opera is paired with pre-recorded interactive workshops and a standards-aligned study guide, so it can work as a full lesson rather than just a one-off viewing. The whole package is free for schools and educators worldwide.

While this one is digital, it's part of a larger youth effort from the company. Opera Theatre Saint Louis also stages Joshua's Boots, a youth production performed by talented young artists alongside professionals. If you're more of a live-audience person, the touring production is due back in autumn 2027. For now, though, The Magic Flute is available on demand for schools and educators from January 19 to June 30, 2027, at no cost.
