Free morning with a curatorial talk on the St. Louis Art Museum exhibition 'Women Impressionists and the Land', a session on nature and well-being, and plein air painting by MOPAPA artists.
Nature Speaks Through Art is coming to the Missouri Botanical Garden on Wednesday, October 21, from 11 AM to 12:30 PM. It's a collaboration between the garden and the St. Louis Art Museum, built around the museum's exhibition Women Impressionists and the Land.
The morning is split into a few different things. A curator from the St. Louis Art Museum will give a talk, and there'll be a brief presentation on the link between nature and well-being. While those are happening, artists from the Missouri Plein Air Painters' Association will be working in the open. The term en plein air is French for "in the open air," and it describes the practice of painting a landscape outdoors on site—which is exactly what you'll see them doing right there in the garden.
If you've been following the museum's Women Impressionists and the Land show, this is a good companion to it. The exhibition focuses on women Impressionists and their relationship with the land, and this event brings that conversation out of the gallery and into the actual landscape. Between the curatorial talk and the artists painting in real time, you get to see the subject and the process side by side.
