Free, family- and dog-friendly outdoor DJ series with Illtemperament, Field Theory, Umami and Neu Er in Benton Park.
Illtemperament headlines the latest Music From a Tent on Sunday, October 18, at Benton Park, with Umami, Field Theory and Neu Er joining in. It's a free, community-driven DJ series started by St. Louis creatives Illtemperament, Umami and Field Theory, and it's back at Benton Park for another year. The whole thing is built as an alternative to the usual nightlife: instead of a dark club, the music happens outdoors in the park during the day, with DJs spinning a mix of digital and vinyl across the afternoon. The vibe is intentionally low-key, and you're encouraged to bring your own food, drinks and picnic gear. It's family- and dog-friendly, and any donations go to the DJs, who volunteer their time. Sound is provided by @5w33t.
This particular afternoon runs from 3 PM to 8 PM at the Grassy Bowl on the north side of the park, 3100 South Jefferson Avenue. Since it's a daytime thing in a public park, you can drift in and out whenever you like rather than committing to a full night. If you're planning to hang out for a while, the picnic gear comes in handyβa blanket and some snacks make it a lot easier to settle in for the afternoon. The series has returned to Benton Park every year, and this one brings in Neu Er alongside the three who started it.

Because it's an outdoor event, the weather is the only thing that can throw a wrench in the plans. The organizers post updates on Instagram @musicfromatent, including any weather-related changes, so it's worth following them if you're planning to head out. It's free, it runs from 3 PM to 8 PM, and it's at the Grassy Bowl on the north side of Benton Park.
