Music festival and conference that tells the story of St. Louis through music across eight stages in the Grand Center Arts District, with a thought leadership conference.
MATI returns to the Grand Center Arts District from July 15 to 18, 2027. The festival, which used to go by the name Music at the Intersection, has grown since it launched in 2021, and this edition adds two more venues to the mix: Powell Hall and The Sheldon Concert Hall both join as main stages.
That brings the total to eight main stages across the district. The indoor, ticketed shows are spread between Powell Hall, The Sheldon, The Fabulous Fox Theatre, The Sovereign, and Jazz St. Louis. The outdoor side is free, with the Washington Avenue block party and the Counterpublic Performance Green stage. There's also a thought leadership conference over at .ZACK, and MATI Places venues hosting clinics and workshops throughout the festival.
If you've been following it since the start, you know the general shape: ticketed shows inside, free music on the street, and a conference on the side. The new venues just mean more stages to work around. The festival was started by the Kranzberg Arts Foundation in partnership with the Steward Family Foundation and The Regional Arts Commission of St. Louis, and it's built around telling the story of St. Louis through music. It's grown in size and ambition every year, and it's caught the attention of The Recording Academy and national press like PEOPLE, The Source, Billboard, Essence, VIBE, Ebony, SPIN, and Forbes.
