Jake's Leg celebrates 50 years of St. Louis deadication with a show of rock, jazz, blues and psychedelic improvisation at The Pageant.
Jake's Leg plays The Pageant on Saturday, November 21, celebrating 50 years of St. Louis-based deadication. It's a Grateful Dead tribute band that's been a fixture of the local scene for five decades, and this show marks the milestone.
If you've never seen them, the thing they talk about most is the dialogue between the band and the audience. They describe their shows as communal experiences where dancing, singing, and connection are as important as the setlist itself. For a long time, their residency at Twenty North served as a proving ground and an example for younger acts, helping to normalize genre-blending in the St. Louis scene by mixing rock, jazz, blues, and psychedelic improvisation.
That openness has brought some notable names across their stage. Phish bassist Mike Gordon joined them for a surprise appearance on Jerry Garcia's birthday in 2024, jamming on Dead classics like "Bird Song" and "Shakedown Street." Over the years, they've also shared the stage with Chuck Berry, Mick Fleetwood, Alphonso Johnson, and Buddy Cage.
