Live blues show by Ivas John Band, led by guitarist and vocalist Ivas John, at SqWires Restaurant & Annex.
Ivas John Band plays SqWires Restaurant & Annex on Thursday, October 22, starting at 5:30 PM. It's a trio: Ivas John on guitar and vocals, Benet Schaeffer on drums, and Jamie Pender on bass.
John is a Chicago-born blues guitarist based in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, who first got into the blues through his father's and brother's record collections. He cut his teeth in Carbondale, Illinois, backing Martin 'Big Larry' Albritton, an original Alligator Records artist, and Rip Lee Pryor, son of harmonica legend Snooky Pryor, before putting together his own group. He plays a hollow-body guitar with very few effects and draws on a wide range of blues styles, from Chicago and jump blues to honky-tonk and primal Delta blues. The band's debut album, Street Music, earned them a spot on PBS as part of the American Roots program.
These days John plays more than 200 live shows a year across the Midwest. He's shared stages with Leon Russell, Guitar Shorty, Nick Moss, Lil' Ed and the Blues Imperials, and the Chicago Rhythm and Blues Kings. The show at SqWires is part of that regular touring schedule, with John leading the trio on guitar and vocals.
