The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra performs Danny Elfman's score to the film Edward Scissorhands, live to picture, conducted by Larry Loh.
The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra is bringing Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands to Powell Hall on Saturday, Oct 24, and Sunday, Oct 25. It's a live-to-picture presentation, meaning the orchestra plays Danny Elfman's score in the room while the movie runs on the big screen. Larry Loh conducts.
This is the first time the SLSO has brought the film to the symphonic stage. The score is a big part of the movie's identity—Burton envisioned the music as another character, one that carries the emotions, thoughts, and dialogue of a protagonist who has very little to say. It's ethereal and enchanting, and it's the main way the audience gets into Edward's world. The 'Ice Dance' has since become one of Elfman's signature concert works, performed by orchestras all over the world.
The presentation is part of the SLSO's 147th season, which includes two first-time film-on-the-big-screen shows at Powell Hall. It's licensed by Disney Concerts.
