Concert by Abilene, Texas band Dexter and The Moonrocks, blending red-dirt country and alternative music, at The Pageant.
Dexter and The Moonrocks play The Pageant on Sunday, December 13, 2026. They're coming in from Abilene, Texas, with a sound they describe as Southern Alternative—a mix of red-dirt country and alternative music that fans have taken to calling "Western Space Grunge."
The band first made a name for themselves with their debut single, "Couch," which came out in August 2021 and took off online. That was followed by a self-titled EP that gave us "Where I Steer" and "Behave," and the set will draw from that early material. The influences they cite run wide: Nirvana and Foo Fighters on the grunge end, Pink Floyd on the psychedelic side, and Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Austin Meade, and Whiskey Myers in the Southern and alternative space. It's a broad reach, and the "Western Space Grunge" label fits the way they pull from both red-dirt country and alternative rock.
On stage, the lineup is James Tuffs on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Ryan Anderson on lead guitar and vocal harmonies, Ty Anderson on bass, and Fox on drums and vocal harmonies. With two members handling harmonies alongside the lead, there's a vocal layer to the sound that goes beyond just a singer and a band. It's an all-ages show, so you can bring the younger ones along.
