Singer-songwriter Dan Eubanks, former bassist of the Grammy-nominated bluegrass band Special Consensus, plays live with his band at Blue Strawberry.
Dan Eubanks plays Blue Strawberry on Sunday, November 8, at 7 PM. He's performing with his band, the Sons of the Middle Class, at the Central West End showroom and lounge.
If you've come across Eubanks' name before, it might have been in a bluegrass context. He's spent years as the upright bassist for the Chicago-based Special Consensus, a Compass Records act that earned two Grammy nominations for Best Bluegrass Album and eight IMBA trophies, including Album of the Year. That's a high-profile bluegrass pedigree, but this show is his own thing: he's a St. Louis-area singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, and here he's the one leading the band. He holds a Bachelor's and a Master's in Jazz Studies and has worked as a session and touring musician across bluegrass, Americana, blues, Latin jazz, salsa, country, and rock. He's also released two full-length solo albums and taught at several local colleges and universities.
For this set, he's bringing a full band. He'll be on guitar and vocals, joined by Andy Marks on drums, Will Miskall on bass and vocals, Aaron Bibelhauser on keys and vocals, and Ryan Kemp on pedal steel guitar. With vocals coming from three different spots in the lineup, it's a full sound rather than a solo act with backing.
