Permanent exhibition of objects donated by St. Louisans over 150 years, with a rotating gallery on 'The Life of Kids' Clothes'.
Collected is a permanent exhibition at the Missouri History Museum, and it's one of those things that's always there, so you can fit it in whenever you've got a free afternoon. It tells the story of St. Louis through the things people have kept: maps, toys, T-shirts, and paintings. The whole thing is built from objects St. Louisans have entrusted to the Missouri Historical Society over more than 150 years—photographs, diaries, home movies, clothing, and books, the kind of personal stuff future generations can actually turn to. It's a way of seeing the city's history not as a list of dates, but as a collection of things people actually owned.
Beyond the main display, there's a rotating gallery that changes every year, focusing on a different theme or a specific part of the collection. The first one, The Life of Kids' Clothes, pulls from an archive of more than 2,000 pieces of clothing worn by children throughout the 1900s. If you're into how everyday life changes over time, that's a good place to start.
