Fifth annual three-day sacred music weekend with a candlelight concert, Solemn High Mass, ball, workshops and a festival bazaar.
St. Francis de Sales Oratory hosts the fifth annual Christ the King Music Festival from October 23 to 25, a three-day sacred music weekend in South St. Louis. The festival is built around a Solemn High Mass, and this fifth anniversary edition returns to South City with a program that mixes prayer and celebration. The Oratory hosts and sponsors the whole thing.
The music is the anchor. The Kingsbury Ensemble plays a candlelight concert, and Floriani performs Widor's Mass Op. 36 during the Solemn High Mass. Between those, there's a formal Ball, workshops, a festival bazaar, and craft vendors. It's a full weekend rather than a single show, so you can drop in for one thing or hang around for the lot.
If you're just coming for the music, the candlelight concert and the High Mass are the main events. The Mass is where the festival gets its name, and Widor's Mass Op. 36 is a substantial piece of sacred repertoire to have at the center of it. The workshops and the bazaar fill in the gaps, and the Ball gives the weekend a formal side that fits the occasion.
