Concert showcase of the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis's Gerdine Young Artist and Richard Gaddes Festival Artist Programs, with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.
Opera Theatre of Saint Louis brings its annual Center Stage concert to the Loretto-Hilton Center on Tuesday, June 22, 2027. It's the company's showcase for the next generation of operatic talent: the singers from the Gerdine Young Artist and Richard Gaddes Festival Artist programs. They'll be backed by the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, with Daniela Candillari conducting.
If you've followed the company over the years, you know this is where they put their young artists in the spotlight. It's a bit of a tradition here—the company has a long track record of launching careers from these programs. Names like Jamie Barton, Lawrence Brownlee, Christine Goerke, Erin Morley, Paula Murrihy, Matthew Polenzani, Morris Robinson, Michael Spyres, and Russell Thomas all came through here before moving on to major stages. The concert is performed in the original language with projected English supertitles, and it's made possible by a gift from Schmidt Vocal Arts in support of the Gerdine Young Artist Program.

Center Stage is part of the 2027 Festival Season, curated by Artistic Director Patricia Racette. The full season runs from May 22 to June 27, and the concert falls toward the end of that stretch. The season closes with the world premiere of Safe Haven, by composer Tobias Picker and librettist Aryeh Lev Stollman—the company's 46th world premiere in 52 years. This particular night, though, is all about the young singers and the symphony, with Patricia Racette and Yvette Loynaz co-curating the program. It's a good way to see the new voices the company is working with before they move on to the bigger houses.
