Four behind-the-scenes sessions with panel discussions and live excerpts from the 2027 Festival Season operas, moderated by General Director Andrew Jorgensen.
Opera Theatre of Saint Louis is running the Carol L. Kimball Spotlight on Opera series this May, four sessions that take you behind the scenes of the 2027 Festival Season. It's a look at how the season comes together, and the lineup covers four different operas over four consecutive Mondays: A Little Night Music on May 3, La traviata on May 10, Cinderella on May 17, and Safe Haven on May 24.
Each session is built around a panel discussion with the people who actually make the shows happen—composers, librettists, directors, designers, singers, and special guest speakers. General Director Andrew Jorgensen moderates the conversations, and the talk is broken up by live performances of excerpts from the operas, sung by the company's Richard Gaddes Festival Artists and Gerdine Young Artists. The sessions run 75 to 80 minutes, and each one is followed by a short, informal reception where you can stick around and chat.
The series is named for Carol L. Kimball, a member of the Opera Theatre family who was a generous friend and a beloved volunteer. It's part of what the company has been doing since it opened in 1976, alongside its programs for identifying and training the next generation of opera artists, artisans, and administrators.
