Austin Grimm plays original music and covers across roots, folk, rock, blues, jazz and reggae with Lo Stone and Ben Gage.
Austin Grimm & Them Gold Souls play Joe's Cafe & Art Gallery on Sunday, December 20. It's a local homecoming for Grimm, a St. Louis native who's spent more than a decade playing professionally. For a long time, that meant leading Roots of a Rebellion (ROAR), a Nashville-based band that toured the U.S. extensively—more than 120 shows a year—and put out Shapes of a Soul, which hit number one on the Billboard Reggae chart.
These days, Grimm is taking some time off the road and playing closer to home. The set mixes his own original music with covers that pull from country, folk, rock, pop, blues, jazz, and reggae. It's a broad reach, and since he's playing his own songs alongside the covers, you'll hear where he's coming from as much as what he's drawing on. He's joined by Lo Stone, a St. Louis indie-folk songwriter, and Ben Gage, an Americana artist from Akron, Ohio, whose music blends folk, blues, and storytelling.
