A one-person comedy by Alex Edelman performed by Jacob Flekier, exploring antisemitism, identity and empathy with humor and depth.
Alex Edelman's Just for Us is playing at the Wool Studio Theatre in the JCC-Staenberg Family Complex, with performances running from October 1 through October 18. This is the St. Louis premiere of the show, produced by New Jewish Theatre and directed by Alan Knoll.
Just for Us is a one-person comedy that starts with a single antisemitic tweet. Edelman follows the thread until he finds himself attending a meeting of white nationalists in Queens, coming face-to-face with the people behind the keyboards. From there, the show opens up into a larger conversation about antisemitism, identity, assimilation, and empathy, handled with a mix of humor and depth. It's a story that begins with a specific, personal provocation and ends up touching on things that feel much broader.
The original production earned a Special Tony Award and an Emmy for its HBO special adaptation, so this is a well-traveled piece of writing. For this St. Louis run, the role is performed by Jacob Flekier.
