World-class blues guitarist Walter Trout and band perform guitar-heavy tunes at The Brook.
Walter Trout plays The Brook on Friday 16 October, with Leoni Jane Kennedy opening the bill. Trout is a blues-rock guitarist who's been playing for more than five decades, and the night is built around his guitar-heavy sound.
He started out on the New Jersey coast in the late 1960s and early 70s, the same scene that launched Bruce Springsteen. From there he moved to Los Angeles, where he worked as a sideman for Percy Mayfield and Deacon Jones and played in the bands of John Lee Hooker and Joe Tex. In 1981 he joined Canned Heat, and that led to an invitation to play in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers alongside guitarist Coco Montoya.
He left the Bluesbreakers in 1989 to form the Walter Trout Band, which built a strong following in Europe. In 1998 he released his self-titled domestic debut and renamed the group Walter Trout and the Free Radicals, later Walter Trout and the Radicals. He's been leading his own band since then, and that's what he'll be bringing to Southampton.
