The Young Ones Art Club (7 – 13 years)

The Young Ones Art Club is back at Southampton City Art Gallery on Saturday 10 October, from 10.30am to 12.30pm. It's a session for children aged 7 to 13, run by Southampton Cultural Services, and this one is led by Southampton-based artist Alex Sutherland.

The idea is simple: kids get to experiment with different art materials and ideas, drawing inspiration from the artwork on display and the gallery's collection. It's less about following a set of instructions and more about playing around with what's in front of them. If you've got a child who likes to make things, it's a good way to get them into a gallery and let them work with materials they might not have at home.

One thing that makes it easy for parents: you can either drop your child off and go about your morning, or stay and hang around while they work. It's entirely up to you. The session is part of a wider series of Young Ones dates running throughout autumn 2026, on 12 September, 10 October, 14 November and 12 December. You can book each one individually, or book all four together to get a discount.

That means if you're looking for something to keep them occupied on a Saturday morning, you can pick just the one that fits your schedule or sign them up for the whole run. The gallery is on Commercial Road, Southampton, SO14 7LP, and the session runs from 10.30am to 12.30pm. A single session costs £12.50.
