The Tale of the Loneliest Whale

The Tale of the Loneliest Whale comes to Turner Sims on Saturday 22 November, a children's theatre show from Hoglets Theatre that's part of the venue's autumn programme at the University of Southampton. It's aimed at primary-aged children and families, and the running time is about 40 minutes.

The story follows a whale who sings into the deep blue sea but hears nothing back, until a mysterious voice echoes through the waves and prompts him to set off on an adventure. Along the way he passes through glowing coral caves, past wibbly jellyfish and wild-eyed sea monsters. It's an interactive show, so the audience gets involved rather than just watching from their seats.

Behind it is Hoglets Theatre, with Andy Curry writing the piece and providing the songs and music. Gemma Curry directs, crafts and performs it, and Kelli Zezulka handles the lighting design. The production uses puppets and original songs to bring the sea creatures to life, and it's been described as a cosy, heartwarming show with a clear message about friendship, difference and the beauty of being yourself.
