The Sheep Detectives

The Sheep Detectives comes to Harbour Lights Picturehouse on Monday 13 July, a live theatre show with a premise that's hard to sum up in a single sentence. The whole thing centres on a shepherd who reads a murder mystery aloud, all while pretending his sheep can understand every word. It's that kind of thing — a mystery read to an audience that doesn't talk back, with the shepherd playing both parts.

The venue is Harbour Lights Picturehouse in Ocean Village, a two-screen cinema and bar overlooking the harbour. It's housed in a landmark building by architects Burrell Foley Fischer that first opened in February 1995, on the historic site of Southampton's very first purpose-built docks, which go back to the 1840s. It's dog-friendly and has both indoor and outdoor seating, and usually screens everything from current blockbusters and family favourites to independent gems, cult classics and world cinema. The cinema received a Civic Trust Commendation in 1997, was shortlisted for a RIBA architecture award, and was voted Britain's Best-Loved Independent Cinema in 2000 by the readers of Empire Magazine.

Tickets are £9, with child tickets at £5.50, members at £7, concessions at £8, and family tickets at £25 and £27.50. If you go before 5pm, it's £8, with child tickets at £5.50, members at £6, concessions at £7, and family tickets at £23 and £25.50. There's also a silver screen price of £4.50.
