Post-punk band The Chameleons mark their 45th anniversary with a UK tour, featuring special guest Lol Tolhurst performing 'The Songs of The Cure'.
The Chameleons play Southampton on Thursday 1 October, one date in a seven-show winter tour across the UK. They're a post-punk band from Middleton, and this is their third major UK tour in three years, following a run of packed-house performances.
They're not coming alone. Special guest Lol Tolhurst, a founding member of The Cure, will be performing The Songs of The Cure, a set that revisits the early, seminal songs from The Cure's catalogue. Those are the tracks that helped shape the post-punk and goth-era sound before he left the band, so it's a look back at the early years rather than a career overview.
Between the two, the night sits firmly in that post-punk territory. The Chameleons bring their own Middleton-born sound, and Tolhurst brings the early Cure material that helped define the whole scene. It's a double bill that keeps to one side of the record, with the early Cure songs acting as a companion to the main set.
