Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma

Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma opens at Harbour Lights Picturehouse on Saturday 22 August, the latest feature from writer-director Jane Schoenbrun. It's a reboot of the Camp Miasma franchise, and Schoenbrun describes it as their most personal and perhaps most playful film to date.

The story follows Kris, a filmmaker hired to revive the series, who tracks down the original 'final girl', Billy, a reclusive former star still living on the camp site. Their encounter unravels the boundaries between fiction, memory and desire. Shot in just 25 days, the film draws on Friday the 13th, Sleepaway Camp and Psycho to explore identity, embodiment and transformation through an LGBTQ lens, building on the themes of gender identity and authentic self-expression Schoenbrun established in I Saw the TV Glow and We're All Going to the World's Fair. Schoenbrun has spoken about the film's fascination with portals: thresholds between worlds, selves and stories.

Alongside Schoenbrun, the cast includes Hannah Einbinder, Gillian Anderson, Jack Haven, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Aren Buchholz.

Screenings run throughout the week at Harbour Lights in Ocean Village, SO14 3TL. On Friday, Saturday and Monday, it starts at 20:30; on Sunday and Thursday, 20:15; and from Tuesday to Thursday, there's a 12:30 showing. All child tickets are £3.
