Tony Blackburn brings his Sounds of the 60s Live tour to the Mayflower Theatre, celebrating 10 years of his BBC Radio 2 show with over 100 hits from the decade.
Tony Blackburn brings his Sounds of the 60s Live tour to the Mayflower Theatre on Wednesday 2 June 2027. It's a live version of his BBC Radio 2 show, and the Southampton date is presented by Senbla.
The evening is built around Blackburn himself, who shares stories from his career between more than 100 of the decade's greatest hits. He's not on his own, either: he's joined by the Sounds Of The 60's All Star Band & Singers, so the music is played live rather than run from a record. The show runs around two hours and fifty minutes, including an interval, and is recommended for all ages, though under-2s aren't allowed.
There's a bit of a double anniversary to the tour. It marks ten years of Blackburn's Radio 2 show, and sixty years since he launched Radio 1. He's a broadcasting name with a long history behind him: he cut his teeth at the pirate stations Radio Caroline and Radio London before becoming the first-ever DJ on BBC Radio 1, so the stories he tells draw on a career that goes back to the very start of commercial radio in the UK.
