A concert of organ music inspired by the Holy Trinity - Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Power and Meditation is an organ recital at The Ascension church on Thorold Road in Bitterne Park, running on Saturday 1 August. It's a single-instrument evening, so the whole thing is built around the church organ rather than a full ensemble.
The programme takes its title from the two moods it balances. The music is drawn from the Holy Trinity — Father, Son and Holy Spirit — and the set moves between those two poles: the power of the organ when it's filling the room, and the quieter, more meditative moments that sit at the other end. It's a concert that lets the instrument do both, rather than sticking to one or the other.
If you're not usually one for organ recitals, it's a good place to start. The Ascension is in Bitterne Park, so it's a bit of a trek from the city centre, but it's a proper church setting for this kind of thing. The music is built around the Trinity, and the whole evening follows that thread through the different pieces.
