The Undertones perform live for their 50th anniversary tour, with special guests Ruts DC.
The Undertones play The 1865 on Friday 20 November, part of their 50th anniversary tour. They're joined by Ruts DC as special guests.
It's a big number to be celebrating. The band formed in Derry in 1976, when five friends — John O'Neill, Damian O'Neill, Feargal Sharkey, Billy Doherty and Michael Bradley — started learning to play rock and roll. They recorded 'Teenage Kicks' in 1978 on Terri Hooley's Good Vibrations label in Belfast, signed to Sire Records, and put out four albums before Sharkey left in 1983, which closed the original chapter. The group reconvened in 1999 with Paul McLoone on vocals, and they've been working since.
Since that second start, they've kept adding to the catalogue. There's a new studio album, Get What You Need, alongside vinyl remasters of the first two LPs and a Kevin Shields remix of 'Get Over You'. Michael Bradley wrote a memoir, Teenage Kicks: My Life as An Undertone, and they put together a Vinyl Singles Box Set. Their debut live album, 16 Live Humdingers, was recorded in Glasgow in 2023 and is sold on green vinyl exclusively at shows. This tour marks fifty years since they first got together.
