overpass play The Brook on Tuesday 10 November, with the set built around their debut album, Elsewhere, Always. It's a Birmingham band coming down to Southampton, and the record is the big thing they're touring this run.
They formed during lockdown, and the line-up is vocalist and guitarist Max Newbold, bassist India Armstrong, guitarist Elliot Rawlings, and drummer Jake Bishop. They describe their music as capturing the vulnerabilities and existential confusion of young adulthood, and the live side of it as a 'dopamine burst of wall-to-wall singalongs' — which gives you a fair idea of the energy they're after. The album itself was produced by Rich Turvey at Kempston Street Studios.
They've had a busy 2025, with two sold-out headline tours and support slots for The Wombats, Wunderhorse, and Inhaler. They talk about their sound drawing on Birmingham's musical heritage, from Black Sabbath to The Streets, and they've spoken about wanting longevity and a real connection with their audience, balancing the uncertainty of their twenties with the romance of a brighter future. It's a band moving from grassroots grittiness towards something with a broader reach.
