Mystery Jets present an intimate record store show and signing at Vinilo in Southampton.
Mystery Jets are playing Vinilo in Southampton on Friday 14 August, an intimate record store show that doubles as a signing. It's a small-scale date that comes just a week before their seventh studio album, A Hole To See The Sky Through, arrives on 21 August via Fiction Records.
That new record has been a long time in the making. The songs were written over the years since their 2020 release and recorded with producer Leo Abrahams — who's worked with Brian Eno, Wild Beasts and Frightened Rabbit — at his East London HQ. The title is borrowed from Yoko Ono's minimalist piece A Hole To See The Sky Through, and the album cover uses the original work: a simple white postcard with a circle cut out, granted by special permission from the artist herself.
It's a good time to catch them, too. The band has recently been marking two milestones: 20 years of Making Dens and 10 years of Curve of the Earth, so there's a fair bit of their back catalogue sitting alongside the new material. They've built a reputation for eccentric songwriting, inventive arrangements and a mix of indie rock, psychedelic pop and progressive influences that they've been working with since they formed on Eel Pie Island in London in the early 2000s.
