A life drawing workshop led by artist Peter Camboropoulos at the Southampton City Art Gallery.
Peter Camboropoulos is leading a life drawing workshop at Southampton City Art Gallery on Saturday 7 November, and it's a proper full-day session rather than a quick drop-in. It runs from 11am to 4pm, so you'll be there for five hours straight — plenty of time to settle in and really work through a few different poses without having to rush your sketches.
If you're not already familiar, life drawing is exactly what it sounds like: drawing a live model. The whole point is to work from a real person in the room rather than a photo or a memory, which changes the way you look at things. You get to see how a body actually holds weight, how the light hits a shoulder, and how a pose shifts over time. It's a bit of a different pace from drawing on your own at home, and having a tutor there to guide you makes a difference if you're just starting out or if you've been drawing for years and want to shake things up.
Camboropoulos is the one running the session, so he'll be on hand to talk you through the day. Whether you're coming in with a sketchbook full of work or you haven't picked up a pencil in a while, it's the kind of thing that's easier to do in a group than by yourself. You'll be working alongside other people in the gallery, which takes some of the pressure off — everyone's just there to draw.
