Concert by the alternative folk quartet Ladylike at the Heartbreakers venue in Southampton.
Ladylike play Heartbreakers on Thursday 1 October, starting at 8:00 PM. They're a four-piece alt-folk quartet from Brighton: Georgia Butler on vocals and guitar, Spencer Withey on vocals, guitar and synth, James Ely on drums, and Archie Sagers on six-string bass. They describe their sound as raw and pastoral, with textural, atmospheric builds wired into the tensions of the modern world.
There's a bit of a story to how they got there. The band first started practising in a recital room on a brutalist university campus, a setting they say has seeped into the architectural structures of their songs. It's a detail that sits well with the way they build their tracks—starting small and layering on until the sound fills the room.
They've played Green Man, Left Of The Dial, The Great Escape and Dot To Dot, and have supported Ugly, Mary in the Junkyard and Lime Garden. Early champions have included KEXP, BBC 6 Music, Radio X, DIY, So Young and Rough Trade. Their new single, 'Borrowed Time', is their first new music since their debut EP It's a Pleasure of Mine, to Know You're Fine, and it came with an accompanying music video. The track was recorded in a renovated chapel in South East Wales, and you'll hear it live on the night.
