Hollow Hand perform their latest album Wish Road South, a collection of singalong Americana tracks, at Heartbreakers Bar.
Hollow Hand play Heartbreakers in Southampton on Wednesday 27 October, starting at 19:30. It's the Brighton project of Max Kinghorn-Mills, and the set is built around his fourth album, Wish Road South, which came out on 4 September through Loose Music and Soundly.
The record was tracked live with Oliver Newton on drums and Leo Clarke on bass at the band's new Brighton studio, and the songs are Americana with singalong choruses. Two singles, 'Here Are The Tulips' and 'I Turned My Back On The World', went out before the full release. A third, 'Heavy Metal T-Shirt', grew from a true story about a thrift-shop t-shirt and an attempted conversation with someone special, recorded uninhibited in a studio corridor with the room sound left on the microphones.
Since 2023's Your Own Adventure, Kinghorn-Mills has spent a fair bit of time playing in other people's bands. He became the house band for Caitlin Rose, played in Aoife Nessa Frances's touring band, and supported MJ Lenderman on a sold-out European tour. He later told Keith Hargreaves in a podcast that watching other bands play made him reflect and pushed him to start again.
