God's House Tower is hosting its GHT Summer Art Market this weekend, Saturday 1 August and Sunday 2 August, in the heart of Southampton's Old Town. It's an independent summer showcase that brings together local artists and makers selling prints, homeware and original artwork, with a focus on small-scale, handcrafted work bought directly from the people who made it. If you're after a gift or something for your own walls, it's a good spot to find things you won't see in a high-street shop.
The market runs alongside the tower's permanent Stories Behind the Stones exhibition, so you can wander through the city's history and the art stalls in one go. There's also Facing the Planet by Tessa Coe and Jane Coyle on display during the weekend, which gives you a bit more to look at beyond the market tables. God's House Tower usually programmes contemporary art alongside the city's history, and this weekend fits that pattern — the market sits right in the middle of it.
If you fancy staying a while, there's a café bar on site doing freshly brewed coffee, pastries, iced summer drinks and LOAF toasties, with buns from Hoxton Bakehouse and coffee from Peaberry Coffee.
