David Essex

David Essex is playing the Mayflower Theatre on Sunday 13 September, as part of his UK tour Thanks for the Memories. It's a night of his hits live, and the tour title does the work for you: it's a look back over a career that's touched on singing, composing, acting, and a fair bit of all three at once.

He first made his mark when he auditioned for the London production of Godspell and was chosen by US producers to play Jesus, a role he performed at the Roundhouse and then in the West End for two years. From there, his work spread across records, theatre, film, and television. As a singer, he put twenty-three Top 30 singles in the British charts, including the Grammy-nominated 'Rock On', which topped the charts in both the UK and the US and sold over a million copies, followed by 'Lamplight', 'Hold Me Close' and 'Gonna Make You A Star'. He's also written and produced his own albums, including 2013's Reflections.

On screen, he appeared in films like That'll Be The Day, Stardust, Traveller, The Guvnors and Black Prince, and played the head of the Moon family in the BBC's EastEnders. His stage credits run from Evita, Footloose and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Aspects Of Love to his own musicals Mutiny! and All The Fun Of The Fair. The tour brings that whole stretch of work together under one roof.

It's a Sunday evening show, starting at 18:30 and running for about two and a half hours, including an interval. Face value tickets start from £40.15 including fees, and the venue is the Mayflower Theatre on Commercial Road, SO15 1GE.
