Bugs in Boxes

Bugs in Boxes is at Tudor House and Garden on Monday 17 August, a natural history craft session where you make your own creepy-crawly creatures and a matchbox museum to keep them in. It's a one-day thing, run across four separate one-hour slots: 10:30am to 11:30am, 11:30am to 12:30pm, 1pm to 2pm, and 2pm to 3pm. You pick the time that works for you, and you'll come away with your creatures and their little storage boxes to take home and show off.

The whole thing is inspired by the Tudor House garden, so it's a good fit for the venue. Tudor House and Garden is Southampton's oldest museum and the city's most important historic building, with more than 800 years of history right in the heart of the Old Town. The timber-framed Tudor House, which faces St Michael's Square, was built in the late 15th century, and the adjacent King John's Palace — a Norman house you get to from the garden — dates back another 300 years. It opened as the city's first museum in 1912, and the gallery mixes family-friendly activities with interactive technology and immersive displays, with a café serving local produce on site.

For this session, you're invited to become a natural history collector in the museum's spirit, making your own creepy-crawly creatures complete with matchbox museum storage to take home and surprise your family. Adults are welcome to take part as participants, and there's a free accompanying adult ticket available for anyone keeping a young person company; everyone under 16 must be accompanied. It's at Tudor House and Garden, Bugle Street, Southampton SO14 2AD, with sessions running 10:30am to 11:30am, 11:30am to 12:30pm, 1pm to 2pm, and 2pm to 3pm.
