A home education history session for children aged 6+ exploring Stone, Bronze and Iron Age life using the museum's collection.
Tudor House & Garden is hosting a home education session on prehistory on Thursday 10 December, from 10.30am to 11.30am. It's part of a new series of Discovering History sessions designed with home-educating families in mind, and this one is aimed at children aged six and over.
The session takes prehistory and breaks it down into the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages, so you're looking at a long stretch of time in a single hour. Rather than just talking through the dates, it draws on the museum's own collection of stories and objects to show how people actually lived across those eras. The best bit is that the children get to handle real objects that are thousands of years old, which is a far cry from just looking at pictures in a book.
It's run by Southampton Cultural Services and takes place in the venue's education room, so it's a dedicated space for the group rather than something squeezed into the main galleries. If you're home-educating, it's a handy way to tick off a history topic while letting the kids get hands-on with the real thing.

It costs £8.00 for one child and one adult, and that includes admission to the museum on the day, so you can wander round the rest of the house and garden before or after. Each additional adult is £3.00. The session runs from 10.30am to 11.30am on Thursday 10 December at Tudor House & Garden, Bugle Street, Southampton, SO14 2AD.
