A creative wet felting workshop for adults to create 2D artwork using warm, soapy water and agitation to bind wool fibres together; all materials provided.
Southampton City Art Gallery is hosting Autumn Felting on Sunday 1 November, a creative wet felting workshop for adults that runs from 11am to 1pm. If you've never come across it, wet felting is also known as fulling, and it's a highly sensory process: you use warm, soapy water and agitation to bind wool fibres together into a solid piece of fabric. The gallery's learning team leads the session, so you don't need to have done anything like this before to get stuck in.
Over the two hours, you'll make your own 2D artwork and take it home with you, and all the materials are provided, so you just need to turn up. The session is suitable for over-12s, and the learning team guides you through the whole process from start to finish. It's pitched as an ideal Christmas gift—something you make yourself and can wrap up for someone else.

The gallery itself is free to enter and sits in the heart of the city's Cultural Quarter on Commercial Road. It holds an internationally renowned collection that spans centuries of artistic creativity, from Renaissance masterpieces to contemporary works, and runs a regular programme of exhibitions, community displays, workshops, talks and tours. There's also a café next door in SeaCity Museum, which makes it easy to turn the morning into a longer outing. The workshop costs £25.00 and runs from 11am to 1pm on Sunday 1 November at Southampton City Art Gallery, Commercial Road, SO14 7LP.
