Ash perform their 1977 30th Anniversary Edition live at the O2 Guildhall in Southampton.
Ash are playing the O2 Guildhall on Wednesday 2 December, part of a global run marking the 30th anniversary of their debut album, 1977. It's a record that holds a fair bit of weight: released in 1996, it flew straight to number one and went platinum, turning the County Down trio from teenage upstarts into Britpop-era icons. It's where songs like 'Girl From Mars', 'Goldfinger', 'Kung Fu' and 'Oh Yeah' first came from.
The anniversary comes with a deluxe reissue, out 16 October via BMG. It pairs the 2022 remaster with four bonus tracks: the long-lost 'Bittersweet Blue', a 2026 version of 'Oh Yeah', a demo of 'Girl From Mars' and an acoustic take on 'Gone The Dream'. The 2LP vinyl adds a curated B-sides collection, with 'Get Ready' and 'Does Your Mother Know' appearing on vinyl for the first time. Disc two captures a live set recorded at STABAL Studios in 2021.
The Southampton date is one stop on a global tour that's been running throughout the year. Earlier in the schedule, on 6 May, they did a live-streamed acoustic set and Q&A from Belfast's Oh Yeah Centre, hosted by BBC Introducing's Taylor Johnson. The Guildhall show is the full band, though.
