Art for All: Spooky Portraits!

Southampton City Art Gallery is hosting Art for All: Spooky Portraits! on Wednesday 28 October, a messy art workshop for children aged five and over. It's part of the gallery's Art for All family activity sessions, and this one leans into the Halloween season with a focus on self-portraits. The sessions are run by Southampton Cultural Services.

The main thing you'll be doing is printing your own spooky self-portrait using fabric printing. The 'spooky' part comes in with lift-the-flap twists, so the portrait you start with isn't quite the one you end up with. It's described as a messy workshop, which is a fair warning for anyone who likes to keep their clothes pristine — it's the kind of thing where you'll want to dress your kids in something they don't mind getting a bit of paint on.

There are three sessions to choose from throughout the day, so you can pick the one that fits your schedule best: 10.30am to 12noon, 12.30pm to 2pm, and 2.30pm to 4pm. Each one lasts an hour and a half, which is plenty of time to get a portrait printed and the flaps sorted without having to rush it. The gallery is on Commercial Road, Southampton, Hampshire SO14 7LP, right in the city centre.

Tickets are £8.00 per participant, and each ticket includes space for one accompanying adult, so you're covered for the adult in the room. Between the three time slots, you can fit it in before lunch, over the midday break, or in the afternoon.
