Art for All: Pet Portrait Printing (6yrs+)

Tudor House and Garden is hosting a pet portrait printing session on Thursday 27 August, part of their Art for All activity series. It's aimed at ages six and up, so it works as a family outing if you've got younger ones to bring along. The idea is simple: you'll be making colourful printmaking portraits of your favourite animals and pets, so it's a good one to bring a photo of your own pet to work from.

One of the best things about it is that all the materials are provided, and there's guidance on hand throughout, so you don't need to be an artist to get stuck in. If you've never tried printmaking before, this is a low-pressure way to give it a go. The only real rule is that under-16s need to be accompanied, so it's definitely one for parents or older siblings to join in with.

The session takes place at Tudor House Museum on Bugle Street, which is Southampton's oldest museum and its most important historic building. The timber-framed house facing St Michael's Square was built in the late 15th century, and the adjacent King John's Palace, a Norman house you can reach through the garden, goes back another 300 years. It opened as the city's first museum in 1912 and now mixes family-friendly activities and interactive technology with its displays, plus a café and a museum shop on site.

There are three separate sessions to choose from on the day: 10.30am to 11.30am, 1pm to 2pm, and 2.30pm to 4pm, so you can pick the one that fits your day best.
